A Memory Improvement Technique To Help You Remember Names

Have you been in a situation where you talk to someone and you want to call her with her name but can't remember it and you are afraid to ask? It's kind of embarrassing, I've been there so here is a memory technique to help you remember peoples names.

Step 1: Associate names with faces
All people are unique and each one of us has something unique on his/her face. When you are introduced to someone pay close attention to the details of her face. Take a good look at the ears, mouth, eyes, nose etc. Try to find something unusual about her face that will help you associate this characteristic with the person's name.

Create an image of that person in your mind, paying special attention to those unique characteristics. By creating images you help your brain recall information when you need it later. Alternatively you can associate a person's name with other parts of her body. It's what attracts your attention from her body that should be associated and not necesarilly a face detail.

Step 2: Repetition works wonders
When you are introduced to someone repeat her name a couple of times. Ask her to repeat her name a couple of times or even spell it if its an unusual name. Also a good idea would be to write that name in a piece of paper or add the persons phone number in your cell phone and write the name so you can see it. When writing the name try to visualize a picture of that person in your mind so your brain can make an association/connection between that person and her name.

Step 3: Progressive improvement
The memory technique described here is quite simple and straight. Associate images of a person's face or images of their body with their name. Repeat this process a few times in your brain and you'll notice significant changes in the way you remember names. You may extend this technique and use it to remember other words too.

I just need to stress that this method requires some practice and some patience. Don't expect to adapt this concept straight away. I am sure you will find your own way to use this memory technique if you only try to implement it in your life.

The idea is quite simple and I will repeat it for the third time here so you remember it:

A Memory Technique To Help You Succeed on Exams

The memory technique discussed in this article could help you improve your grades when writing exams. The technique are designed to empower the revision capabilities of an individual (aka you). So keep reading.

When writing exams you need to recall large amount of information right on time. It is possible to overuse your brain during the process so here's a technique to help you succeed. What you need to do is create what I like to call an "Information Cloud".

What is an Information Cloud?

For every particular subject/chapter/book you study you need to create a list of important points. This will be your info-map. This list can be enhanced and grow in size as time goes by and you study even more.

When studying for exams you usually need to read something twice or even more. So when reading for the first time you can create a basic list outlining the most important things. By nature your brain will be ready to absorb more information easier the second time you read the information. Enhance your list and keep adding information to it. Make sure you take notes about all possible information contained in what you read so that it is available to you through the Information Cloud later.

After finishing your list you can create labels for every significant point and rewrite the list in an ascending/descending order placing the most important information on top of your list. It's better to have a numbered list because otherwise you may forget a label on a line and this is really frustrating. By writing numbers next to the labels your brain automatically associates the number with the specific label thus, you have better chances of remembering every information contained in your cloud.

After you're finished with all the writing it's time to create an image of your information cloud in your mind. This is the key to succeed with this technique. Try to visualize the image of the paper in your mind. Imagine it full of the information you've written with your hands. Imagine recalling all information from the cloud easily and effectively.

Recalling information from the cloud can then be as easy as running through a mnemonic in your mind. At the end you will be ready to dominate every subject. Always keep your Information Cloud handy and look at it often to keep the image in your mind alive and kicking.

Memory Techniques Can Help You Learn A Foreign Language

Learning a new language can be a difficult task. But if you use these simple memory exercises/techniques you could be start learning a new language in no time.

Memory technique A: The One Hundred Words
There's not a lot to say about this particular technique. I know it works for me. The idea is that you only need a 100 strong words to cover over 50% of all words used in a conversation. By learning those 100 strong words you are one step ahead in speaking a new language or at least perform a basic conversation.

But what are those 100 strong words? It depends on the language and yourself. It's up to you to decide on the strong words since each individual uses and/or is affected by words in a unique way. You can create a list of words and keep adding words to the list. Start with the ten first numbers from one to ten. Then add words you use very often. You must find the hundred top words of your everyday vocabulary.

After you've finished your word list in your native language write down the words from the foreigh language next to the words from your native language. Exercise on learning/memorizing the new words and you will notice significant improvement in the way you talk to others using the foreign language.

Memory technique B: The Mnemonics
The idea behind this technique is to use images to link words between your native language and the foreign language. What you do is to associate all words with images in your mind. Then you start linking words by connecting images and create new.

Here's an example of how to create images of words in your mind:
You want to learn the Greek word for the English word "Eagle". First you imagine an eagle opening its huge wings and flying over the mountains. After creating that image in your mind its time to look at the Greek word which in this case is "Aetos". When you read/say the Greek word, try to picture the same image in your brain, the one of the eagle flying through the clouds. That way your brain will instantly create a connection between the new word and the image of the eagle. This technique will help you learn and remember new words effectively and easily.

Memory Technique C: The Environment Mnemonic
This method is quite sophisticated and is based on the fact that the basic vocabulary of every language is somehow connected/linked to everyday things in your environment (You should define your environment, whether it is a room, a house, a village, a city etc). You should start with a place/location you are familiar with. The idea is to start connecting words with objects/locations in your environment.

For example you could associate in your mind the word "Library" with an image of the local library and the word "Book" with images of the books inside the library. You could associate the word "Park" with a park in your town and the word "Tree" with the trees in the park.

This method is so fun and easy when trying to create phrases by using a combination of the above memory techniques. You could easily create an image of a phrase like this one "..I went to the local library to get a book and then I went to the park to read the book.."

But Thanks to many years of research it's now easier than ever to sharpen our brains with do-it-yourself techniques and tips that will boost our ability to remember as we age.

Technique #1: Be careful with your brain usage.
Our brain is a machine. And although it is a very strong and powerfull machine its still limited and needs rest. You should start economize your brain's power by taking advantage of calendars, planners, memo books, lists, maps, file folders, address books so that you can have routine information accessible. Also have a certain place in your home where you leave your car keys or your glasses and things you use on a daily basis. If you follow rules like that you will save a lot of your brain's power to use in more importand situations and cases.

It is also useful to try to brake new information into smaller parts so that you can keep track of your thoughts. It's easier to remember small parts of information. Have faith in yourself.

Technique #2: Do Not Be A Victim Of Stereotypes.
Have faith in yourself. There are myths about ones age that can lead to a memory failure. When exposing yourself to negative stereotypes about aging (for example that middle-aged people learn difficult and do worse in memory tasks) then you're not making a step forward. You are actually forcing your brain to believe that it will fail as you age.. There's absolutely no proof that your memory will lose its accuracy and strength as you age.

Technique #3: Repetition is Importand.
When you learn something new that you feel it's importand to remember or recollect later, try writing it down a few times. Or try to repeat it loud. For example when you meet a new person and you want to remember his/her name, use the name when you talk to him/her.

Instead of repeating something again and again with small time intervals try the opposite. Repeat the information after longer periods of time (e.g. once every one hour, or once every other day etc.). This is especially helpfull when you learn complicated new information. Let the brain absorb the information steadily as time goes by. Do not pressure your brain.


Technique #4: Make use of all your Senses.
Don't limit yourself to use certain senses when you learn new information. Try to use all your senses. For example when reading something try to hear the sounds when turning the page or even smell the book or magazine. Odors are powerfull at conjuring memories from the past. Use your emotions to fill your memories with emotional content. It will be much more easy to recollect those memories later.

Try to read aloud the new information you want to learn. Try drawing a picture. Try to visualize the information in your brain. It doesn't matter how you shape the information. It's the process of visualising that's importand because it forces the brain to make more precise information notes!
