Self Defense For Women: Common
Sense Tips
You've seen it in the movies, read it in newspapers. Violent crimes, murders,
forcible rapes, aggravated assaults, car jacking, burglaries and lot more. It
can happen to anyone. I don't mean to scare you but I want you to realize that
we are part of a society that is struggling and you need to take action to defend
yourself. Self defense is extremely important and you need to know a few tips
that will make feel confident and safe.
Self defense is all about using common sense to avoid dangerous situations
especially when you are outside your house. Self defense programs and exercises
are strongly recommended but that's not always enough.
Here are some tips that will give you an idea of common sense self defense:
- There are times when you sense danger. If you sense trouble on your way,
try to change route and be prepared to run
- When walking on the streets try not to wear expensive or fancy jewelry, especially
if you walk alone.
- Use public transportation and do not hitchhike.
- You might think it's not important an important self defense tip, but try
to look confident and safe even if you are scared.
- Look people in the eyes but in a calm manner. Do not look angry.
- When you are on a bus do not sit on the window seat. Instead choose the aisle
seat. Also, try to sit close to the driver or next to the exit door.
- When approaching your car always have the keys ready. Check your car before
entering. Do not leave your vehicle unlocked even for a couple of minutes.
- Never stop your vehicle on a quiet road unless it is absolutely necessary.
Continue driving to a crowded area before pulling over or exiting your car.
Take special care when in parking lots at night. Be ready to defend yourself.
- When you want to take a taxi always order by phone so that the driver can
be traced. Avoid taking a taxi from the street.
- Do not use a Walkman when jogging or walking on isolated and quiet areas.
Also change your routines frequently. Change routes every now and then.
- When calling from a public telephone box, always look at the side of the phone
box door so that you have your back to the phone. A good practice would be to
close the door of the telephone box.
- Choose your clothing with care. Prefer clothes that allow you freedom of movement.
Even if you know the best self defense techniques you need to be able to move
freely or run.
There are a lot more common sense self defense tips that will maximize your
ability to defend yourself when attacked on the streets. The key is to stay
alert and think quick before you act. But it would be even better if you knew
certain self defense techniques to disable your attacker or prevent him/her
from acting against you.
